For 3G data speeds: peak download speeds of 3.1 Mbps. Peak upload speeds of 1.8 Mbps and average download speeds between 600 kbps and 1.4 Mbps.

The HTC Evo Shift 4G is powered by a 800 Mhz Qualcomm processor and it comes equipped with a 3.6-inch WVGA (800x480 pixels) capacitive touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording, four-row QWERTY keyboard, microSD card slot with a 2 GB card inside, expandable to 32 GB, media player with 3.5mm headphone jack, FM Radio and Amazon MP3 store, six hours of talk time, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11n, which also works as a 3G/4G hotspot for up to eight Wi-Fi devices. Sprint will be launching the Evo Shift 4G on January 9 for $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract.

The Shift seems to be a more lighter version of last year's announcement, the HTC Evo 4G, which features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus for the price of $199.

Sprint's second announcement was the Novatel Wireless MiFi 3G/4G, a new mobile hotspot device capable of providing wireless connectivity for up to five WiFi devices. It will be available starting February 27 for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract.

The HTC Evo Shift may be the first 4G smartphone to hit CES this year, but it won't be the last. Expect more 4G smartphone announcements by both Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile later this week.
