The iPhone Dev Team have released on Sunday a jailbreak for the iPhone iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1. This launch comes just days after the U.S. Copyright Office ruled that Jailbreaking, or any other kind of bypassing of manufacturer's protections to allow handsets to execute third party applications is no longer in violation of the copyright law.

The new jailbreaking application no longer requires you to connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to a computer, as all the hacking is done remotely via Mobile Safari. All you have to do is visit http://www.jailbreakme.com on your device and slide to jailbreak. The software can be used for iPhone 4, 3Gs and 3G running iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1.

While this is all legal now, Apple still doesn't want its users to Jailbreak their devices, reminding them that doing so will void their warranty. If something goes wrong with the jailbreaking, you can always perform a clean restore by connecting your device to iTunes.
