Verizon Wireless and Motorola unveiled the new Droid X Android OS based smartphone. This is a pretty big update to the original Droid, which was introduced not too long ago, back in November.
The Droid X comes with a 4.3-inch (854 x 480 pixels) WVGA screen and an 8.0 megapixel camera with autofocus, digital zoom, dual LED Flash and image editing software. The camera also does 720p HD video capture and playback via HDMI or DLNA.
The device will come packed with Android 2.1, but customers will receive an update to Android 2.2 and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 by late summer. The 2.2 update will favor business customers, with support for both Exchange and Gmail for business. Corporate users will have push delivery of e-mail, live widgets that stream messages to the home screen, widgets that separate work from home e-mail, corporate directory and Global look-up along with a unified calendar for Enterprise and sync with Google Calendar.
The Motorola Droid X will be available online and in Verizon Wireless retail stores starting July 15 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a 2-year contract.
