Some of the features include a 3.5-inch (960x640 pixel) multi-touch Retina display with fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, 5.0 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom, LED flash and HD video recording (720p at 30fps) with audio and a secondary VGA-quality front camera. Both cameras can be used for videocalls with a new feature called FaceTime.

The iPhone 4.0 is also the thinnest smartphone ever. Even though it doesn't look that way, the new iPhone is only 9.3 millimeters thick. The fron and back are made of aluminosilcate glass, chemically strengthened to be 30 times harder than plastic. This material is also more scratch resistant and more durable than the materials used in the previous iPhones. The two sides also have an oil-resistant coating that helps keep it clean from fingerprints.

For a better gaming experience, Apple added a 3-axis gyro that when combined with the accelerometer, provides 6-axis motion sensing such as up and down, forward and backward, side to side and pitch and roll. This will most likely lead to more interesting games in the months to come.

On the software side, the new iPhone comes with iOS 4, Apple's newest mobile operating system, which comes with 100 new features, including Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, and deeper Enterprise support.

The iPhone 4.0 delivers 7 hours of talk time on 3G networks, 10 hours of web browsing on Wi-Fi, up to 6 hours of web on 3G, 10 hours of video playback and up to 40 hours of audio playback.

Apple also bumped up the processor of the iPhone, to an A4, the same processor used in the iPad. The A4 runs at 1GHz and it provides a greatly improved processor and graphic performance, but also a longer battery life. Other features include 802.11n Wi-Fi and quad-band HSUPA with 7.2Mbps downlink and 5.8Mbps uplink.

Apple will start selling the iPhone 4 in black and white versions in the US, Germany, France, Japan, and the UK on June 24 for the price of $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model. Customers can pre-order the device starting Tuesday, June 15 from the Apple Online Store or at their local Apple Retail Store. iPhone 4 will be available in 88 countries by the end of September.

The iOS 4 software will be released on June 21 as a free update for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Also on June 24, Apple will launch the iPhone 3GS 8GB model for just $99.
