22 Feb 2010 | Android , HTC , Rumors , Sprint | 3 comments

sprint 4g wimaxAfter spending years developing their fourth-generation (4G) network, Sprint is now ready to launch a 4G handset in the first half of 2010.

The new phone will run on Sprint's 4G WiMax network that the carrier has been building with wireless Internet service provider Clearwire Corp and is currently coverign more than 30 million people in 27 markets. By the end of the year, Sprint is expected to also cover Boston, New York, San Francisco and Washington and add another 120 million people to their coverage area.

According to Sprint, 4G technology is up to 10 times faster than 3G, making video streaming, voip calls and other bandwidth-intensive apps work without hiccups.

There's nothing official regarding the handset, but rumors are saying that HTC is already working on a Google Android 4G smartphone.

Verizon is also planning to launch its 4G network, which uses a different technology called LTE, later this year. This will be an interesting year.

The Current Name Of The HTC 4G Handset Referred To In This Brief Article Is The HTC Supersonic. A Very Nice Phone With Pretty Darn Good Specs. 1 Gig Processor, 5 Meg Cam, 4.3 Inch Screen, Kick Stand Like The HD2, & The Data Speed Will Be 4G Fast If You Live In An Active 4G Market. It Will Run Android 2.1 @ A Minimum. No News As To Whether The Supersonic Will Have The HTC Sense Interface. This Phone Will Be Announced @ CITA Next Month. It Should Be Available By April! I'm Getting One For Sure!

Umm, maybe you should perform some further research. This was reported last week by a number of sites, they only problem here is that Sprint immediately released a statement denying the conversation with Forbes ever took place.

Dan Hesse is scheduled to have a key note speech on March 24th according to:

I believe this is where he will announce the Supersonic. If history repeats itself, back in CTIA 2009 HTC announced the Touch Diamond2 in March and had a hard release date of April 17th 2009. So that's about less than a month after March CTIA 2009. So if they announce it in March 24th 2010, it should be available sometime in Mid-April which matches the articles that mentioned it's coming in the 1st half of 2010. Here is the original Forbes article with interview of Paget Alves:

So my best guess is spring time/April 2010

Here is the best source I've found so far:

They are usually right on the money with their secret "sources" that also say it's currently already in testing with Sprint
