Following the announcement at CES 2010, it looks like AT&T will introduce its first Android OS powered smartphone earlier than predicted. The carrier unveiled plans to launch the Motorola Backflip on March 7.

Powered by Google's Android OS, the Backflip features a 3.1-inch (320 x 480 pixels) 256k color TFT touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, 4x digital zoom and LED flash, ability to capture video at 24 fps, 2GB of memory with support for up to 32GB, 3.5mm headset jack, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi and a full HTML browser.

The Motorola Backflip will hit AT&T retail stores on March 7 for the price of $99, after a $100 mail-in rebate and with a 2-year contract.
