Not a big surprise here and kind of a letdown really. After months and months of speculation, Apple today unveiled their newest creation, the Apple iPad tablet computer.

Features

It's pretty much a giant iPhone with a 9.7-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen multi-touch display (1024 x 768 pixels). It's powered by a 1GHz Apple A4 chip, running a more advanced version of the iPhone OS and has 16GB to 64GB of flash storage. Other features include 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, speaker, microphone, accelerometer and compass.

Pricing

Apple is planning to start selling the iPad in two versions: a WiFi only iPad, available in 60 days, which will cost $499 (16GB), $599 (32GB) or $699 (64GB) and a WiFi + 3G version which will launch in 90 days and will go for $629 (16GB) $729 (32GB) $829 (64GB).

AT&T is providing the data plan for the iPad. It'll cost $14.99 for up to 250MB or $29.99 for unlimited data. The plans include free use of AT&T WiFi hotspots. The good news is that you can activate this service on the iPad, and there's no contract. It's prepaid and you can cancel anytime.

iPhone OS 4.0

Not yet. Either Apple forgot about its iPhone users, or they didn't want to cram in too much in the 1.5 hour presentation. Remember, this year's MacWorld was moved to February, so we might get to see this thing in about two weeks.

They should've added a camera where you can have a conversation from ipad to ipad and see each other's face... that would've been cool!
