Yesterday, Apple registered a new patent application that reveals a new Universal Dock designed to work for iPhones, any type of iPod or even a BlackBerry or other non-Apple devices. According to the patent, the iPod dock will use an elastic sponge-like material that will conform to the shape of any device you connect to it.

If you have other devices you wish to connect, all you have to do is hit the reset button and the elastic material will decompress and return to its original state. The new dock will also come with a remote control.
