Right after yesterday's conference, where Google and Verizon have announced a partnership to bring the Android mobile operating system to Verizon's network, Eric Schmidt was photographed holding a Verizon branded HTC Hero, which pretty much makes this official.

The HTC Hero is one of the best Android phones at the moment, featuring Sense UI on a 3.2-inch (320x480 pixel resolution) touchscreen, a 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus and digital zoom, microSDHC memory slot, 3.5mm jack, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G. All this running on a Qualcomm MSM7200A, 528 MHz processor with 288 MB RAM / 512 MB ROM.

As Verizon already mentioned at the press conference, the first Android phone will start shipping in November.
