nokia n97 mini sideToday at Nokia World in Stuttgart, Nokia introduced three new handsets: the Nokia N97 mini, Nokia X6 and the Nokia X3.

As you might have guessed, the Nokia N97 mini is a smaller version of the original N97 smartphone introduced back in December 2008. The main differences between the two are the smaller screen and the lack of the navigation pad on the keyboard, weighing 138 g instead of 150 g.

Even though the screen is smaller, it's still a 640x360 pixel touchscreen, measuring 3.2" diagonally compared to the original N97's 3.5" display. Unfortunately, the good news stops here. Nokia also cut down the internal flash memory for the device form 32GB to 8GB. The microSD card slot will still be there, so you can expand if you feel the need for more space. The N97 mini's battery has also been shrunk from 1500 mAh to 1200 mAh, thus shortening the battery life.

The camera on the mini remains the same 5 megapixel with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and a dedicated light for video capture at VGA quality (30fps). Other features include A-GPS, 3G, HSDPA, WiFi and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Nokia will be selling the N97 mini for €100 less than the original version, setting the price at €450 before taxes and it should begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2009.
