Sony Ericsson today announced the addition of applications to its mobile content service, PlayNow arena. This follows the previous announcement from last week of PlayNow arena Movies. The new feature will offer users a fully integrated application marketplace for their Sony Ericsson handsets, thus giving third party developers a chance to develop and sell apps.

Applications will be offered in the 13 countries that currently support PlayNow arena. The service platform, which is compatible with 38 Sony Ericsson phone models, will begin shipping to further markets and models over the year.

The company also announced it will start accepting application submissions from developers starting July 1st. The submission will be open for Java ME and Symbian OS applications first and later this year will expand to cover additional platforms.
