Google Launches Android 1.5 SDK for Devs

android cupcakeYesterday evening, Google announced an early version of their Android 1.5 software developer kit, which can be downloaded on the Android website.

Android version 1.5 is based on the cupcake branch from the Android Open Source Project and it introduces APIs for features such as home screen widgets, soft keyboards, live folders, and speech recognition. It also includes an add-on for the Google APIs. This add-on provides support for the Google Maps API, which was previously embedded in the "core" SDK.

The Open Handset Alliance will be releasing a series of articles regarding the changes in in the 1.5 version and to help devs get their apps ready the for the official release.
