Skype will start offering the iPhone version of their famous VoIP service starting Tuesday, March 31. The service will be available as a free application on the iTunes App Store.

The new Skype app will be compatible with both iPhone versions and the second generation iPod Touch for those who have a microphone headset. Users will be able to make or receive free Skype-to-Skype calls over Wi-Fi, call landline or cellphone numbers and send/receive IMs.

This first version will still be missing some of the functionalities of the desktop version, such as: SMS, video, file transfer and voicemail will be missing, but they'll most likely be implemented in future releases.
