Apple Holding iPhone OS 3.0 Event on March 17

Apple has started sending out invites yesterday for a special iPhone event on March 17 in Cupertino, California. The event will discuss the announcement of the next iPhone OS and a new software development kit. This release comes just a year after they unveiled the 2.0 iPhone OS and the original SDK.
Rumors say that a new iPhone will also be launched together with the 3.0 OS, which is highly probable, as it's been forever since the announcement of the iPhone 3G.
There's no word on who will host the event, but seeing that Steve Jobs is on a medical leave we might see some new faces on stage.
