Good news for Windows Mobile fans. The 6.5 version of Microsoft's mobile operating system, which is expected to launch at the end of 2009, will have a widget engine.

This feature will allow developers to build applications using HTML and JavaScript and run them using Internet Explorer 6 Mobile engine, so it would act like a normal web page, but without the address bar, menus and other browser features.

The applications will have the .widget extension and will create a simple way for companies to create apps that support their web services.
