palm pre thumbPalm CEO Ed Colligan today announced that the company will no longer release products based on the Palm OS and it will instead continue with Microsoft's Windows Mobile and their own newly created platform called webOS.

webOS was introduced by Palm last month at CES and it's basically an operating system designed to be used with a touchscreen-based GUI. The apps are created using technologies like XHTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Colligan also confirmed that the Palm Pre, the first device to run the new webOS, will launch on the Sprint network and is expected to get picked up by other carriers in 2010.
