Just days after Microsoft announced that 5,000 of their workers will be laid off, Sprint is now planning the same thing by slashing 8,000 jobs in the next 3 months in order to fight the recession, which affects 14% of company's workforce.

Sprint will pay $300 million for severance, but is planning to save $1.2 billion per year in labor costs.

Last month, AT&T, the second-largest US carrier, reduced its workforce by 12,000 people.
