According to an announcement made by Sprint today, the new Samsung Instinct has seen record sales since the its launch last Friday. This comes just two weeks before Apple's second generation 3G iPhone release takes place.

Dubbed the "iPhone killer" when it was first announced at CTIA 2008 in April, the Samsung Instinct only received heavy media attention just days before launch, when Sprint decided to cut the Instinct's price from $199 to $129, in an effort to compete with the iPhone and grab some sales.

Looks like it worked. No numbers were revealed as of yet, but Sprint is happy with the results, so it must mean they're doing good.

Sprint's Samsung Instinct comes packed with a 2.0 megapixel camera with video recording, POP3 email, Visual Voicemail, microSD card slot for up to 8GB of extra memory and a 2GB microSD card in the box, Bluetooth 2.0 and a full HTML browser. You can pick up the Instinct from Sprint fro $129 with a 2 year contract.

price is everythign for some people! they dont care about quality

by Brian on Jun 28, 2008

lol. You think Apple makes better quality than Samsung, the #2 phone maker in the world?

Can we be serious here and not biased apple fanboys?

by jo on Jun 28, 2008

apple fanboys?? the only thing different about this is the tactile feedback.. what else is better? its just an iphone clone!

by slappy on Jun 29, 2008

And the feedback is a gimmicky vibrator. Thats about it. The rest. Mac OS X built right in. SDK thats far outclassed every other smartphone SDK in the field. Hardware accelerated Open GL/ES as well. The app store that will bring apps that blows away the Instinct all within your fingertips. Over the air sync. Full enterprise support.. Have you seen the games coming? Its console quality not smartphone quality folks.

Iphone doesn't even have stereo bluetooth or a video camera. Iphone is still missing a lot of basic features. At the the fact that you get Sprint TV and the tactile feedback and lower cost then the Iphone isn't all that.

this phone is WITHOUT a DOUBT better than the i phone.not only are there more features but all of the applications are much more advanced,i love this phone

by Nick on Jul 14, 2008

i agree many of my friends with the iphone agree that the instinct is better

by macdragonfl on Jul 16, 2008

I am very impressed with this phone. It is a pleasure to use. It is not as slick as Iphone. Has more of the features I need. Samsung needs to make sync software for Mac.

Just got this phone yesterday - LOVE it...sure it doesn't have the "cool/hipness" of the iphone, but who cares? I've been with Sprint for years and they are great. Why switch to AT&T, pay a stupid amount of money for an iphone, and then a stupid amount for a data pack. With sprint, I pay $100 a month and can use ALL the features on my instinct.

Well, im still waiting for my Instinct because it was back-ordered by phone so i cant comment on the phone just yet. However, based on all the reviews i've read, I followed my Instinct and chose this phone lol.

"Ordered mine on yesterday (16Jul) and it's backordered... Anybody know how long they're running?"

well i ordered mine last tuesday or wed. ( not sure) and its supposed to be here on friday.( jul.18) so i wouldnt expect so soon. but hey your luck could be better than mine lol

by geovanny on Jul 18, 2008

Well i ordered mine on the 10th.....still backordered and havent received a tracking number.....anyone have an idea of when its going to get here?

by applefanboy on Jul 21, 2008

Original iPhone user, then I bough the 3G...supremely disappointed. I couldn't activate it for three days! many more disappointments. My girl got the Instinct a week before I got the 3G and I am IMPRESSED...fasted internet connection, smoother OS, many more features, and the her battery will outlast mine by days not hours!! I'm switching to Sprint!

by exsunger on Jul 25, 2008

Depends on your location. If you've got EVDO service, you're good, if not Sprint sucks. By the way, I'm am now fully convinced that Engadget is an Apple company...fags.

PPC user. Tried both for a week. Toss up. Both had awesome graphics (even in sun); very fast internet; and were ez to use xcept minor quirks. I went with Samsung because of price and service. Phone $129; plan with unltd internet, tv, voice, data, text was less than $100 per month. ATT formerly Cingular was 2x w/ less stuff. Voice coverage in Phx sucks. Plus just like Ipod...all u do costs 99 cents. Felt like I was getting nicked every time I picked up da phone 4 music or games. Both phones were awesome on sound, video, ez of use and quality of eqp. I couldn't justify the xtra $ for the xtra 8gb of IP internal mem. I got 4 more micSD n go w/ 40+ dvds and 10,000+ FREEmp3s.

you guys are right, the iphone and all apple products are a mess. the instinct is the superior phone

by nutorious on Aug 12, 2008

the instinct kicks ass.
the iphone is way more expensive and has less features and is less quality than the instinct.
sprint is way better than AT&T
just bc is Apple doesnt mean S***T...
Instinct is better in every way... all it doesnt have is WiFi...
if u have internet u dont need it =] duh!
so Instinct beats the shit outa the iPhone

by kursten on Aug 18, 2008
