Verizon joins the Open Handset Alliance

Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam today announced that the company will be joining Google's Open Handset Alliance and start supporting Android.

They really had no choice. The Open Handset Alliance (OHA) is a business group formed of 30+ members including Google, Motorola, HTC, T-Mobile, Qualcomm and Sprint Nextel, whose goal is to develop services for mobile devices.

So what do you think? Can we expect AT&T to join the OHA any time soon?

AT&T won't be joining. They will stick with Apple and their OS, they won't be getting involved with Android.

Unless an operator has made a previous deal preventing them to join (AT&T), they must join the alliance to push for their interests.
And their #1 interest is making sure they can keep users on their network, and get a cut of any advertising revenue made.

Im worried about this. I work with a premium retailer and if phones can be purchased and applied to accounts outside of the company its going to hurt a lot of sales companies, and workers.
