Truphone demos VoIP on the iPhone

Yes, it's true and there's even a video to prove it. A UK-based software maker called Truphone has developed a new app that allows iPhone users to send and receive calls via WiFi.

Unfortunately for those that want to keep their iPhones as clean and legit as possible, this app will only work on Jailbraked (Jailbroke?) phones. The software was demonstrated at DEMOfall 2007 in San Diego today and it shows Truphone CEO James Tagg making a VoIP call to another handset.

The app is still in beta, but it is expected to be available later this year. Truphone also demoed the software on other platforms including Mobile Linux, Windows Mobile and Symbian S60.
