Microsoft: We're not making a cell phone

Based on rumors I haven't even heard of (oPhone maybe?), Microsoft's Steve Ballmer came out today to confirm that they won't be making a cell phone and that they prefer to focus on the software side and of course on their Zune music player, which pretty much failed to get close to Apple's iPod. But don't worry, Microsoft always releases crappy first products (who doesn't?); maybe the second generation will perform better.

"I don't actually think it will make sense for us to make a cell phone," said Ballmer.

Personally, as much as I'd love to see more competition in the mobile phone business, especially one with practically unlimited funds, I think Microsoft is doing the right thing for now. Back off and watch how Apple is doing and maybe get in the game later on.

yea, it's better this way. I don't want to see microsoft in the mobile phone market as a hardware manufacturer. Let them do the software part!
