T-Mobile Samsung t629 (People's Verdict: doesn't suck as bad as the Samsung t619)

Since the launch of T-Mobile's Samsung t629 on Monday, many people emailed us to ask if it's any good (why not use the comment system?). We didn't have a chance to get our hands on it, so we went online to see what the good people of Howard Forums think. Here are few thoughts:

"After playing around with it, I am (overall) impressed. A couple gripes are that the keyboard is sometimes hard to press being that it isn't raised and that the top of the slider part kind of gets in the way. Also, I have yet to find any way to create any types of shortcuts. Other than that, I am happy with it and will try to get pics up soon."

"Wait for the Nokia 6133 in a few weeks, you'll thank me later. Samsung phones are junk, last good phone they made was the E315."

"The T629 has a slightly different menu build to it (menu's inside menu's) which is really cool. The design of the overall phone is better then T809 imo. For example the slider feels very sturdy and solid. The T-809 was confirmed by Samsung itself to have had poor design flaw, for example the swivel camera that allowed dust particles to get trapped under the screen.
With so many known issues for the T-809, it was no wonder it was discontinued. I know I had many RF, Bluetooth, and Multimedia problems with my T-809 that forced me to get rid of it.
I have personally been carrying the T629 for about 3 weeks now and imo it's a great phone (RF, Voice Quality, and No Dreaded Echo) and a decent Multimedia device. The phone itself doesn't come with a SD card or any type of software. However you can just go to your local Best Buy or Circuit City and pick up a 1 GB MCSD card for around 50 bucks.
Plug it into your phone and allow it to format it for you, and then just put it in your CPU and drag and drop. I'm still fooling around with the Mp3, 3gp, and other settings with the phone and sometimes I run into similar problems like with the T-809 on setting up the MP3 ring tone portion.
It's a great phone hands down imo, and T-Mobile was smart to pick this baby up. With the up and coming MyFaves launch T-Mobile just decided to give the customers an option of picking up a new slider phone that corrected the short comings of its previous predecessor instead of re-hashing a T-809 MyFave capable handset."

Thanks! I think I'm gonna get one.
Well... After much research I was trying to buy the t809. However, Tmobile took it off their list. I then bought a Motorola A732 unlocked on ebay. (FYI : HORRIBLE PHONE!!!! Poooooor quality all around). I returned that and called tmobile back to see if there were any other phones coming out. They told me about this T629. I waited patiently and picked it up first thing in the morning the day it came out (9/18). I cant tell you how pleased I am. It's sturdy. The camera is great. However you have to stay pretty still (sensitive). The funtionality is nice however if any of you are used to a motorola and customizing your "hot keys" (or the menu options you use most), to my knowledge, you cant do that here. Also the ringer is a little soft. Yes, I turned it all the way up. so I put it on vibrate then ring. Those are the ONLY cons of this phone. They are minor ones at that. It's a great fast phone. oh and texting will take some time to get used to with this keypad.
Great phone!!!!! Get it. You cant beat $150.
here's a pic example.

I received my T629 yesterday. Seem to have a problem drag and dropping Mp3's. I made sure they were 192kbps or under and put them in the "My music"? folder using the MicroSD card adaptor for my PC.
If it doesn't work I guess I'll have to purchase an USB cable or a bluetooth PCI card.
Hey Guys,
I love my T629 I also have the Tmobile MDA....I just bought it 12-20-2006. It is slim, has a wide screen, has excellent voice recognition command and its very very sexy..;-)
I love the T629. Great screen (though the resolution is not up to previous Samsung par), games are awesome, clear, crisp sound. Wonderful to handle due to its thin design, and it's different than other phones out there. I'm glad I'm not one of the common RAZR carriers. Go for it, it's one of the best phones out there.
anybody else havin problems gettin different ringer for messages?
i want this phone real bad
it ok but most of the accessories that came with it broke. after 10 months, the screen is broken...
Doesn't ring very lowdly so I tend to miss calls.
the reception isn't all that great either, I tend to drop calls.
Blue tooth earpiece doesn't come in very clear.
Everytone says I sound like I am under water.
I have changed this phone out twice for these reasons and going for a third.
If I don't have better results, I am going to have to try another phone type
The only thing I don not like about this phone is that you can not set personalized ring tones for texts. other than that it has great storage capacity and a good look.
