Samsung today announced its plan to demonstrate 4th Generation (4G) mobile technology at the annual Samsung 4G Forum in Jeju Island, Korea. The 4G demonstration could show us data transmission speeds of up to 1Gbps.

1 Gbps data speed is 50 times faster than current Mobile WiMAX technology. It takes about 2.4 seconds to transfer 100 mp3 files (300MB), 5.6 seconds to transfer a movie (800MB) at speeds of 1Gpbs.

The demo will be held in a bus travelling at 60 km/h (37 mph) to show multi-cell Handover with data speed of 100Mbps. Handover is the process of transferring an ongoing call or data session from one channel connected to the core network to another.

This doesn't mean you can forget about 3G, because 4G is expected to become commercially available around 2010.
