It's official. Verizon Wireless today announced at CES 2006 their "major new service", the V CAST Music. This service will offer customers the ability to download music over the air directly to their phones or Windows XP PCs and also transfer music between the PC and the phone.

Previous rumors said that Verizon will charge up to $2.50 for a song. Actually, a song will cost $.99 if you download it to your PC and $1.99 for dual download (phone and PC).

V CAST Music will launch on January 16. About half a million songs are available in the Verizon Wireless V CAST Music Store at the moment but the company promises they will add another million by spring.
