Motorola announces third quarter earnings

Yet again, Motorola announced record third quarter earnings. Sales went up 26 percent. The company reported sales of $9.42 billion, compared to Q3 2004 of $7.5 billion, even topping the expected $8.9 - $9.1 billion. Earnings per share from continuing operations went up to $.69, more than two times higher than the expected $.27 - $.29.

Global mobile device market share up 5.5 percentage points. Achieved an estimated global market share of approximately 19 percent, an increase of approximately 5.5 percentage points versus the year-ago quarter and approximately 1 percentage point versus the second quarter of 2005.

During this quarter, Motorola shipped 38.7 million mobile devices, an increase of 66 percent compared to the same period in 2004 and a record for the business. The company also launched 13 new mobile devices and generated operating cash flow of $1.1 billion, this being the 19th consecutive quarter of positive operating cash flow.

Nokia is also expecting higher net sales. They will annouce their Q3 2005 results on October 20.
