Palm and Microsoft announce Treo smartphone on Windows Mobile

Palm and Microsoft today announced at San Francisco the first Treo smartphone which will run on Windows Mobile operating system and will launch on Verizon Wireless.

Features of the Treo include Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service, which is the largest high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States, with download speeds averaging 400-700 kilobits per second. The Company has been expanding the service area of the BroadbandAccess fall 2003. The new Treo also features Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, Bluetooth, 64MB memory plus SD card slot and is powered by an Intel processor.

"This is a landmark alliance that will help businesses remain on the cutting edge of competitiveness," Gates said. "Demand for accessing information on mobile devices is soaring, and businesses want a low-cost, scalable solution. We're excited to team with Palm and Verizon Wireless to deliver a winning Windows Mobile solution that connects professionals to their critical information while on the go."

Verizon Wireless said that the new Treo smartphone will be available in the first quarter of 2006. Rumors indicate that this phone will cost more than $500.

I just don't trust Microsoft to not spy on me, steal my personal information etc. I used to think I could trust Palm, but now I see I cannot.
