Verizon Wireless to restore service Hurricane Rita hit areas

Hurricane Rita Katrina Verizon Wireless service restore damaged areasVerizon Wireless is trying to send people into the hardest hit areas by Hurricane Rita, in the Texas Gulf Coast and Southwestern Louisiana, to restore the service which was shut down because of the storm. Reports show that almost 90 percent of cell sites are operating in affected areas.

At the moment, service is disrupted in the hardest hit areas by Hurricane Rita including in Galveston, south of Houston, Beaumont and Port Arthur, TX, and Lake Charles and Lafayette, LA. Verizon Wireless technicians are working hard to fully restore service in the area. All Verizon Wireless stores in the Houston area, with the exception of some stores located in south Houston, are open.

"Wireless communication is a critical resource, especially during an emergency," said Katherine Greene, Verizon Wireless Houston/Gulf Coast region president. "That’s why it is so important for us to respond quickly and comprehensively in a time of crisis, and, more importantly, to build and prepare our network to perform well in any situation."
