Samsung introduces new super size high-speed MMC cards

Samsung MCC mobile GigaByte cardsSamsung has announced today that it will launch next month new 1GB and 2GB MultiMediaCards (MMCs). These cards can transmit data 20 times faster than other MMCs, at a speed of 52MBytes per second.

The 1GB MMC mobile was created for mobile phones. This card has dual-voltage (1.8V and 3.3V) support and is half the size of other MMCs. The MMC plus cards come in two sizes: 1GB and 2GB. They run on 3.3V and are targeted at digital cameras. These cards are three times faster than the previous SD Memory Cards.

The global MMC market is expected to grow from $796 million this year to about $1.6 billion by 2008, at a 26 percent compounded annual growth rate.
