Sprint second quarter 2005 results

Sprint today announced its second quarter financial results for 2005. The company reported record quarterly earnings: earnings per share of 40 cents compared to 16 cents in the second quarter 2004. Revenues totaled $7.1 billion and increased 4% year-over-year and 3% sequentially on 12% annual Wireless growth.

Sprint reported an ARPU (average revenue per user) of $62 and a solid improvement in customer retention with churn declining to 2.2%. They added about 600.000 total subscribers in this quarter. In the last 12 months, 4.3 million subscribers have been added.

"I'm extremely pleased with our second quarter performance," said Gary Forsee, Sprint chairman and chief executive officer. "We achieved strong operational performance and outstanding financial results. Sprint associates continue to maintain their focus on delivering value to our customers and shareholders while developing detailed plans for our proposed merger with Nextel and planned spin-off of the Local business."
