First-quarter earnings rose to 0.19 euros per share from 0.17 euros a year ago and above all estimates in the poll. Sales jumped 17 percent year-on-year to 7.4 billion euros ($9.63 billion).

"Nokia's overall first-quarter performance brought double-digit growth at the top line, including year-on-year sales growth for each of our four business groups," said Jorma Ollila, Nokia CEO.

The company raised its outlook for global mobile phone market growth in 2005, saying it now expected a 15 percent rise versus a previous forecast of around 10 percent.
