Panasonic has announced that it will stop mobile phone operations in the United States. The company wasn't able to find any carrier partners to sell its phones. Panasonic completed a seven month reorganization process to focus on sales of its Plasma TV, digital still cameras and DVD recorders.

"As a lighter, quicker and more brand-focused organization, Panasonic is well positioned to make major gains in sales and brand value this year. Working closely with our channel partners, I am confident that we will achieve our goal to make Panasonic the best-known and most consumer-centric digital electronics brand in this country," said Yoshi Yamada, the chairman and chief executive officer at Panasonic.

AT&T Wireless was the last carrier to sell Panasonic mobile phones in the U.S. It stopped the selling of the Panasonic GU87 camera phone back in 2003 and since then, Panasonic wasn't able to find another carrier so it began selling phones on its website.

Matsushita, the owner of the Panasonic brand, continues to focus on the European and Japanese mobile-phone markets.
