Cingular Wireless has announced today its earnings for the first quarter of this year. Although their custumers number went up with 1.4 million (now with a total of 50.4 million), they reported a $240 million loss on operating revenue of $8.2 billion and delivered 4.4 billion text messages during these three months. Cingular also completed its $41 billion acquisition of AT&T Wireless in October 2004.

"Our key indicators of progress continue to point in the right direction, and that's good news. Especially gratifying is that millions of customers are choosing Cingular and choosing to stay with Cingular. In a fiercely competitive industry like wireless, such choices are a meaningful indicator of genuine customer satisfaction," said Stan Sigman, president and CEO.
